Brand: Rado
Case:Stainless steel with Murano-glass insert and steel screw-back
Bracelet:Stainless steel, mfd. by S-K, reference unknown
Movement:ETA Cal. 2789, 25 jewels, day-date, gilt

Description: This pre-1973 Rado Murano features an unusual case insert made of glass (presumably from Murano, Italy). The sunburst-style dial fades on the edges to a red tint from a center of a golden hue. Other red accents include the typical Rado anchor logo and the tips of the hour and minute hands.

Murano models have been seen and discussed at the Rado Forum, where examples of the blue, green, and red styles have been exhibited by members. Other Rado watches of the same design, with a green glass insert, have been displayed there, though these are not marked with the Murano name (on dial) nor any reference number (on case back). The dials of these green models may have been re-finished or replaced or they may be separate from the Murano line; no corroboration to suggest their originality has been found. Communication with Rado in Lengnau, Switzerland did indicate that 10,000 Murano watches-combined red, green and blue versions--were produced beginning in 1972, though few seem to survive today. A second reference number (11976) was assigned to a gold-plated version. This distinctive model appears to be part of a large series of watches produced by Rado which are named for famous places whose names begin with the letter M (see also Manhattan, Mannheim, Miami, Manchester, etc.); it is also an excellent example of Rado's penchant for using non-traditional case materials.

The case and bracelet show minor wear; the movement is keeping accurate time. Service history is unknown, but the movement is clean; day-date functions properly as do hacking and quick-set features.

The original S-K bracelet with signed Rado clasp is present on this watch.
